The following document sets
out the duties of the members of the AFTE Board of Directors as a group
and by individual position. These position descriptions are defined
primarily by source documents such as the AFTE Bylaws and Board of
Directors Policy Letters #1-23 (also included), as well as by common
sense, on-the-job experience, current practice, custom and tradition.
Where these duties can be related directly to a source document, this is
indicated at the end of the description of each duty in parentheses.
Where a function is based on common sense, on-the-job experience,
current practice, custom or tradition, this is indicated by an asterisk.
For the sake of clarity, the
format of this document is such that responsibilities common to all
Board members are set out in the initial section, followed by
position-specific duties for each Board member set out on subsequent
separate pages. This document was undertaken as an initiative of the
AFTE 2001-2002 Board and is obviously not carved in stone. It will
require constant updating as circumstances change and source documents
and Board policies and practices evolve, and will require archiving by
the Secretary.
The position descriptions
constitute an excellent primer for old and new members alike and may be
especially useful to members who simply would like to know more about
how the association operates, what a particular position entails or if
they might consider one of these positions in the future.
Board Duties are
revisions effective July 22, 2003, and Policy Letters were
revised June 2009.
The AFTE Bylaws, taken
together with the position descriptions and the Policy Letters give a
very comprehensive idea of what the Board actually does, and should help
make the operations of the Board as transparent as possible.
For information, in the near
future the position descriptions for all appointed positions (Committee
Chairs, etc.) will follow.
