AFTE Certification Program

AFTE Certification Survey

The AFTE Certification Committee is researching the possibility of offering the written certification examinations on-line. The cost of this to AFTE is $2,000.00 per test, plus a $125.00 hourly fee for development. The cost covers the conversion of tests to on-line capabilities and security.

The concept under review consists of offering each test once per year, on-line only. No written tests would be offered at the AFTE training seminars. Every time AFTE provides a test, there is a fee, and a minimum number must be paid regardless of how many take the test.

The test schedule would be similar to this: Firearms Written Test on one day in January; Toolmark Written Test on one day in February; GSR/Distance Written Test on one day in March. Everyone signed up for the test would take it on the same day, at their laboratory, with a designated and approved proctor (similar to the process for practical tests).

The cost savings to an individual is seen in not having to travel to a seminar to take the examination. The cost per written examination for on-line testing would be $150.00 per test. A minimum of ten individuals would be required (total of all tests, not per test).

With this in mind, please take the time to complete this survey, so that the Certification Committee can get a better idea of how the membership views this suggestion. The last day for completing the survey will be Sunday, August 31st, 2003.

Thank you for your participation.
