Sickness & Distress/Family Assistance Program

Responsibilities (Sickness and Distress):

  • Receive notification via phone, AFTE message board, mail, e-mail or in-person, information concerning an AFTE member and one of the following situations:

Death of:

  • Member
  • Spouse
  • Child
  • Parent

Major Illness/Injury/Surgery of:

  • Member
  • Spouse
  • Child

  • At the discretion of the Committee Chair(s) and depending on the situation, a card and/or flowers, a gift, or a donation will be sent to the appropriate person.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will retain an itemized lists of costs incurred and obtain reimbursement of costs from the AFTE Treasurer.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will moderate the Sickness and Distress message board.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will notify members of issues pertaining to the Sickness and Distress committee.


Responsibilities: (Family Assistance):

   Planning and Implementation Phase

  • Develop a document to inform surviving family members or executors that assistance is available through AFTE and to provide contact instructions.
  • Work with Committee members to develop a clearly stated purpose and guidelines for the Family Assistance Committee.
  • Identify and recruit AFTE member volunteers with special expertise and knowledge in the value of and market for Firearms, Ammunition, related Books, and other firearm related reference materials.
  • Inform the membership of AFTE of the purpose of the Family Assistance Committee and its need for volunteers.
    Post Planning Phase
  • The Committee Chair(s) will make sure all AFTE members have access to the Family Assistance Instruction document.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will insure that list of Committee Experts is complete and up-to-date with current contact information.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will recruit new AFTE member volunteer experts.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will ensure that Committee Experts understand their responsibility and purpose.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will act as a clearinghouse for any requests for assistance.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will follow up on requests to ensure that appropriate help has been rendered.
  • The Committee Chair(s) will solicit and summarize reports of Committee member's activities and report this to the AFTE Board of Directors.
  • The Committee Chair(s) or designee will notify members of issues pertaining to the Family Assistance Committee.
