Duties: Receives,
inventories and signs for physical evidence (weighing up to 40 pounds)
and maintains integrity of submitted evidence. Detects and resolves any
accountability discrepancies according to established procedures.
Completes and maintains evidence accountability documents. Marks evidence
for future identification. Examines evidence and renders accurate expert
opinions on the full range of firearms and toolmark problems. Personally
responsible for the accountability and condition of the evidence in his
custody.Reviews laboratory examination requests and confirms the type of
examinations needed. Determines whether any examinations in addition to
those requested are appropriate to fully exploit the probative value of
the evidence. Reviews evidence and exercises independent judgment to
determine the proper approach and sequence of examinations.Travels
worldwide to legal proceedings to testify as an expert witness in
criminal investigations; presents technical testimony in laymen terms.

General Schedule
· Travel required 15% of time.
Secret clearance must be obtained and maintained. Physical requirement:
Must obtain and pass medical examination prior to employment. Visual
acuity and correct color perception are required. Incumbant must be able
to lift up to 40 lbs. from floor to working area height of 48 inches.
Mandatory mobility agreement required. TDY requirement.
· GS-12 and above: Bachelor's
degree directly related to this occupation and 1 year of experience
directly related to this occupation equivalent to the next lower grade
level.
· The experience described in your
resume will be evaluated as related to the qualifications, knowledge,
skills and abilities required for this job.
· Applicants who have held a GS
null position under nontemporary appointment in the competitive service
within the previous 52 weeks.
· Education can be substituted for
experience. Review the qualification requirements for specific
information.
· One year of experience in the
same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade or level
requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the
position being filled.
· Must have 52 weeks of Federal
service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
Other Information:
· Management may select at any of
the grade levels announced.
· Permanent Change of Station
(PCS) expenses will be authorized.
Other Requirements:
· You will be required to provide
proof of U.S. Citizenship.
· Firearms testing required.
· Male applicants born after December 31, 1959
must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective
Service Registration.
· Direct Deposit of Pay is
Required.
