Annual AFTE Banquet
This years banquet was another awesome
event! Everyone was treated to a fabulous meal followed by opening
remarks from outgoing AFTE President Jack Dillon, seen at right.
Jack followed with the presentation of awards.
This year's Member of the Year
Award was awarded to John Murdock
(seen below with AFTE 1st. Vice President
Ann Davis).

As chairman of the AFTE Certification
committee John was instrumental in the development the AFTE Certification
Program.
This year's Steve Molnar Award
was presented to former AFTE Journal Editor John Collins
(below).

Distinguished
Membership Awards were presented to Mike Giusto
(CAL-DOJ), Travis Spinder (SW
Institute of Forensic Sciences),
and Richard Wyant (Washington State Patrol). Only
Richard (seen below) was present to receive his award.

Certification Documents
were presented to the first members to successfully complete the written
and practical certification tests.

Scholarship Committee
chairman, Dave Santora, next announced the recipient of this year's
Scholarship Award was Patricia Rhinds.

Special Recognition
Awards were next with a number of awards presented.
Bill Conrad-
for his work on the new AFTE Glossary,
Beta Tam-
for his work in scanning the AFTE Journals into an electronic format,
Evan Thompson-
for his many years of dedicated service as AFTE's Treasurer,
and presented the first
Honorary Member Award was Michael Coakley
(seen below). Michael was honored for his dedication to
AFTE as the annual training seminar's A/V specialist.

Final Awards were presented by the AFTE
Host Committee.
Vendor Awards were
presented to Forensic Technologies Inc., Cybernational, Savage
Arms, Brownells, Mossberg, and Tom Deeb (Hi-Point Firearms).
Joe Zorola was formally
presented his trophy for winning the Garry Rathman Golf Outing
It was announced by the Host Committee
that the Best Paper Awards would be announced later on
the website.
Also receiving an award was Scott
Doyle for his assistance in posting seminar info to the
website.
After the awards were presented Jack
Dillon introduced the incoming AFTE President, Bob
Shem of the Alaska Department of Public Safety. Bob (seen
below) spoke to the members about AFTE's history, strengths, and future.

Bob also introduced Mitch Rector
who presented a gift to AFTE's Scholarship Fund from
former IBIS International User's Group in the amount of $1625.04.
Bob's last official function of the
evening was to close the AFTE Business Meeting.
Following the close of business AFTE held
their annual Raffle. Some unbelievable gifts were donated to AFTE
this year! (see the Raffle

What could be considered the GRAND PRIZE
was won by none other than the incoming AFTE President, Bob Shem.
Bob can be seen below displaying his newly acquired Savage rifle.
