The
2013 AFTE meeting in Albuquerque will be upon us before we know it. The entire
Host Committee is steadily working to make this a great conference for all
of our colleagues (domestic and international).
The annual training seminar is the chance for all individuals either working
in the field or just interested in the field of firearm and toolmark
examinations to meet. This is not only a reunion or refreshing of
professional contacts, networking, or just catching up with a friend you
have not seen in awhile, but the chance for our members to present new
ideas, research projects, novel techniques, case management and procedure
protocols, new technology, etc., to help in our own daily casework, research
and training activities, and in court. This is our chance as firearm and
toolmark examiners to update our mental encyclopedias, to energize our drive
to try new things, or at the very least listen to what is going on around us
and become aware of those new ideas and techniques.
However, none of this is possible without the participation and willingness
of YOU, the members of AFTE, to share those ideas and research with the body
at large. It is YOU that makes this conference the yearly event we all mark
our calendars for. It is YOU that allows each annual conference to exist.
Therefore, it is from YOU that we, the technical program committee for AFTE
2013, are seeking assistance. We want this conference to be filled with
excellent papers and presentations that are technically sound and applicable
to our field of firearm and toolmark examination.
The host committee is already working on ideas and concepts for this year’s
conference. In this spirit the host committee is writing to you, the members
of AFTE, to encourage you to submit an abstract for consideration by the
Technical Program Committee. The abstract form can be submitted by using the online form that is available. Rest
assured that members of the Technical Program Committee will work closely
with each presenter to provide assistance, suggestions, and guidance to help
ensure that each speaker is successful.
Remember, it is YOU that makes the annual training seminar a yearly event
and it will be YOU that makes AFTE 2013 a memorable event.
**IMPORTANT - READ THE FOLLOWING
INFORMATION**
Papers will be evaluated based upon content
and not on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be three
submission windows:
Window I: Feb. 4 - March 15, 2013
Window II: March 18 - May 3, 2013
Window III: May 6 - June 7, 2013
Authors will be contacted shortly after the closing of each window to inform
them if their paper has been chosen for presentation. If a paper is
not initially chosen, it will be re-evaluated following subsequent windows.
Please use our Online
Abstract Submission Form.
The
Poster Presentation Session is perfect for interesting case write-ups,
shorter research projects, students, or for the attendee who would rather
have a more personalized presentation experience with their peers.
This year, the Poster Presentation Session is scheduled to be the evening of
Monday, June 24th. We are currently accepting topic submissions.
You may email your topics to:
Mike Haag:
mhaag@cabq.gov
Please include “Poster” in the subject line and email your
poster title, a brief abstract, and the contact information you would like
displayed in the seminar program. You can also indicate at this time if you
will be in need of a table-top display area, an easel, or if you will not be
in need of either.
The entire 2013 Host Committee looks forward to seeing you all in
Albuquerque!
