National Firearms Examiner Academy

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, National Firearms
Examiner Academy (NFEA) is now accepting applications for the 2008 NFEA training
session. The NFEA provides training for apprentice/entry level firearm and
toolmark examiners from Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. The
Academy curriculum is composed of the fundamentals of firearms and toolmark
examinations and serves as a basis for the trainee, under supervision, to
develop into a qualified firearm and toolmark examiner. Click

for the 2008 session of the NFEA is January 15, 2008. This session is
tentatively scheduled to run from March 2008 to February 2009 at the National
Laboratory Center, Ammendale, MD.
ATF does not charge State and local agencies for the training
provided to students at the NFEA however the student’s home laboratory / agency
will be responsible for the following expenses:
Prospective students and their home agencies should be aware
that they may be eligible for grants to cover these expenses through the
National Institute of Justice (NIJ). Agencies may apply to NIJ for funding
assistance through the Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants
Program. More information regarding the Coverdell grant program is available
