SHVAK 12.7x108R marking
« on: April 06, 2012, 05:28:42 AM »
From history of pre-war time and the Second World War....

In 2011 we with my friends on the old military range had found a cases of cartridges of SHVAK 12.7x108mm..

model of SHVAK 12.7

headstamp:

"ZV 38" - Plant of a name of Volodarsky 1938 year.

In Russia it's very rare cartridge as this large-caliber machine gun was made only two years (1934-36) then its calibre was changed on 20мм and it became an aerial gun.

If you are interesting this, you can view another markings of SHVAK in this part of our gallery.

Interesting this theme or not? :)

Whether somebody saw a cartridge of ShVAK 20мм with an electrocap? And it was...
;)

Look in our gallery...

A very interesting cartridge!  Am I correct in assuming that the cartridge casing is steel, and the projectile is steel jacketed?

Cases of SHVAK 12.7 and 20-mm were made from brass and only from it. (You can look this in our gallery).
Bullets SHVAK 12.7мм were on the cartridges the same as at the cartridge 12.7х108 for "DK" machine gun - Degtyaryov Krupnokaliberny, a steel cover with tombac and one ring pro-point on the drive part of body.

Shells of SHVAK 20-mm already had other design:
