AFTE 2015

General Liability Insurance is required by many venues; therefore, the AFTE Board of Directors (BoD) sought clarification regarding the coverage of our current insurance policy. The AFTE BoD was notified that our current policy did not cover the meeting itself, and AFTE was unable to qualify and obtain a General Liability policy. It was determined that a Special Event Coverage policy would be appropriate to protect AFTE and its members while attending the seminar; however, it would only cover the seminar events that were held at the venue/hotel. AFTE has never purchased an insurance policy to cover the training seminar or the attendees.

AFTE was able to obtain a Special Event Coverage insurance policy to cover AFTE and all of the attendees during the 46th Annual AFTE Training Seminar held May 24th– May 29th, 2015 in Dallas, Texas. However, not all aspects of the meeting were being covered (such as off-site events).  For that reason, a waiver was constructed and disseminated to those registered for this meeting. The intent of the waiver was to pertain only to those events not covered by the Special Event insurance policy for AFTE 2015. Due to members’ concerns regarding the verbiage of this waiver and the lack of timeliness of its distribution, the signing of this waiver will no longer be required. A few of the workshops will require their own waiver, e.g., Dallas Police Department workshops.

I sincerely apologize for any confusion and concern regarding the waiver and the lack of timeliness of its distribution. It was truly constructed in good faith and with good intentions to protect AFTE.

AFTE 2015

AFTE has obtained a Special Event Coverage insurance policy for the 46th Annual Training Seminar. This was needed since AFTE’s current insurance policy does not cover the actual meeting and due to some venue’s requirement for proof of insurance.  The Special Event Coverage insurance policy obtained does not cover all aspects of the meeting; therefore, AFTE’s legal counsel has created a waiver to address these facets of the meeting (including off-site events).  Each attendee of the meeting will be required to have a signed waiver on file.  This waiver will need to be signed during the registration process at the meeting, and the signature also witnessed by a representative of AFTE.

Hopefully, this requirement will not delay or be an inconvenience during the registration process.  AFTE is posting this waiver to give registrants the opportunity to review it prior to the meeting, which will speed up the registration process.

If you have any questions regarding the waiver, please do not hesitate to contact me.

NFEA

National Firearms Examiner Academy
(Course ID FRMS-PG-0002)

The application period for admission to the 2015-2016 session of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) National Firearms Examiner Academy (NFEA) is open to all qualified candidates. It is important to note that in addition to personal qualifications, trainees must be assigned to an established firearms section within the State and local agency laboratory. Agencies must also have an experienced firearm and toolmark examiner on staff to mentor and continue training upon completion of the NFEA.
The NFEA provides training for apprentice/entry level firearm and toolmark examiners from Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. The Academy curriculum is composed of the fundamentals of firearms & toolmark examinations and serves as a basis for the trainee, under supervision, to develop into a qualified firearm and toolmark examiner. The application deadline for the 2015 - 2016 session of the NFEA is August 21, 2015. It is anticipated that the class will start in October 2015 however the training schedule is dependent on the receipt of funding and may be adjusted accordingly.
