YPG Test Session-
The 15th Annual Yuma Proving
Ground Forensic Firearms Test Session will occur on Saturday
Dec.9, 2006. Due to Scheduling issues this is a tentative
date and my need to be changed to allow Army priorities to
be accommodated, it will be confirmed two weeks in advance.
Each fall since 1992 the U.S. Army Yuma Proving ground,
along with the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the
Southern California Firearms Study Group, has hosted a test
session to allow the forensic science community to study

Crime Lab
Funding at Risk-
From the Crime Lab Project Forum... "It's
conference time in Congress. The House and Senate have
completed their work on the budgets for the Department of
Justice and now it is time to reconcile the differences.
Unfortunately for forensic science, that difference is
significant. Please call
and e-mail your Member of Congress and ask them to
make the House recede to the
Senate for the Paul Coverdell Act. The fact is the
Senate funded the Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Act at $18
million and the House provided nothing. That means that if
the House of Representatives prevails nothing other than DNA
will be funded. No fingerprint work, no toxicology work and
no firearms analysis. Call your Member of Congress today!"...

AFTE
Certified Members Re-certification-
The first re-certifications of certified AFTE members will
begin in December. If you do not remember your date of
certification, check your actual certificate or look at the
list of
certified members posted on the AFTE web site. The
re-certification requirements and a form for
recording the necessary information have been posted on the
web site for the previous four years. Refer to these
documents when applying for re-certification. You must use
the documentation form. This form must also be signed by
your immediate supervisor acknowledging completion of the
requirements you have listed. The accuracy of the submitted
documentation is the responsibility of the certified member.
The submission of fraudulent documentation may lead to
revoking of certification, potential ethics violations, and
finally loss of membership.
To apply for re-certification, complete the
Re-Certification Application Letter and the
Re-Certification Points Schedule form. Send
these documents to the Certification Committee Chairperson,
by mail or electronically, at least two months prior to the
expiration of the original date of certification. Include a
payment to AFTE of $25.00 for each area of certification
that you wish to be considered for re-certification. The
information will be reviewed by members of the committee,
and you will be contacted.
If you have any questions, contact the certification
Committee Chairperson.
