AFTE Journals Online-
The AFTE Journals previously available on CD ROM have been
converted to PDF files and can now be downloaded by AFTE
members via the Journal Search page.

Firearm Analyst Training Program-
A National Institute of
Justice sponsored web based Firearms Analyst Training
Program which was developed through a collaborative effort
between the NFSTC in Largo, Florida and AFTE, has been
released for use by the forensic science community at
www.ojp.usdoj.gov/nij/training/firearms-training/.

Trial Court Rules in Favor of
AFTE
and Named Defendants-
In December of 2006 a Trial
Court ruled in favor of AFTE and named defendants.
Judgment was entered in favor of AFTE and the named
defendants in January of 2007.
Thereafter, Mr. Paul Dougherty appealed the Trial Court
decision to the California Court of Appeal. On July 27,
2008, the Court of Appeal issued a unanimous decision
affirming the Trial Court and awarding AFTE and the named
defendants their cost on Appeal.

SWGGUN Statement on the NAS Ballistic Database Study-
The Scientific Working Group for Firearm and
Toolmarks (SWGGUN) has released an informational statement on the National
Academy of Science (NAS), Ballistics Database Study report and its
implications on the admissibility of firearms related court

AFTE 2008
The 39th annual AFTE training seminar is underway in
Honolulu, Hawaii!!
AFTE members from all over the world have converged on the
Hawaiian Islands this week to enhance their expertise in the
greatest discipline of forensic science, Firearm & Toolmark
Identification! Workshops and lectures will be the
course of business for the day over the next four days.
The meeting will culminate with the annual banquet Thursday
night.
If you couldn't make it to the training seminar check back
during the week for pictures and updates to the events
taking place this week.

Workshop Cancellation!-
Due to a family emergency the
UV/IR Digital Photography Workshop
scheduled for Wednesday
night has been cancelled. The recently announced
Workshop,
Ammunition Identification and CartWinPro, will be
moved from Tuesday night to Wednesday night as an added
alternative to those who may have already registered for the
now cancelled UV/IR workshop.

Goddard Award-
Forensic Technology is proud to announce that, until
April 25, 2008, it is accepting submissions for this year’s
Calvin H. Goddard Award competition. This annual contest
recognizes an individual or a group of individuals that has
demonstrated excellence in the area of firearm
identification. The prize consists of a scholarship to
attend AFTE’s (Association of Firearm and Toolmark
